From all the other great experiences of Grizzly items I bought, I was really disappointed with this hanging air filter. The main working part in this unit is the fan. After 6 hours hanging this unit (had to make a special support for 16 On Center floor joist) I turned it on and the unit vibrated at the lowest of its three speeds. The two higher speeds where OK. I could see the squirrel cage was out of round. Upon looking closer at the squirrel cage, I noted there are cotter pins of different sizes inserted into the blades of the fan. I suppose this was for balancing the fan. I called Grizzly and they confirmed they use cotter pins to balance the squirrel cage fans. They told me if I sent the unit back I would have to pay for shipping ($58.00), so I went with them sending me another squirrel cage to install. The squirrel cages are on back order. I looking forward to un-mounting the unit from my ceiling and repairing the fan.

I initially gave this unit a 1-star rating but changed it to four stars because it has all the features of units that are more expensive. I talked with a friend who does Heating and cooling work and he told me it was not that un-common to use small weights in squirrel cage fans to balance them. But cottor pins?

On the plus side it does move and clean air pretty well but is noisey. From the physical size perspective, this unit is narrower and taller then the Jet models, but it clears my head OK (I am 6') from my 9' garage ceiling . I would recommend mounting an oversize 3/4 plywood to your ceiling first and then doing a flush mount to the plywood. This way you can angle the unit for proper air flow.
