I bought this grow light for over $350 in.2007, I used the recommended T5 bulbs and for a while it seemed great. I grow tomato and other seedlings on a potting table in a heated garage. I have regular forescent shop lights over some additional seedlings. Last year, I noticed the tomato seedlings under this tek light looked curled and dried ( despite even bottom watering). I reached under the light to pick up a cell pack and it was HOT on the back of my hand! The fluorescent fixture next to.it was barely warm. I quickly moved the Tek light up about 8 inches from the top of the plants -- way higher than recommended. I lost several plants due to.this light heating up. This year, same trouble, so I am keeping it up high. Maybe there's a short.or some part responsible for keeping the light cool s worn out. The warrenty according to the web site is only two years :( i think my cheap $12 fluorescent shop lights are a safer bet and seem to grow unscalded plants.

I have an HAI system, and I got these so I can automate my lights. Although they work, they are much worse than a standard dimmer switch that you buy at the big box stores.

First, it doesn't remember your dim level setting; with my old standard dimmer switches, you can turn off the light, and the next time you tap it, it goes to the last dim level. This makes it convenient if you frequently want your light to be, say, half-on.

Second, the mechanics of the switch itself is quite poor. One of them doesn't register my tap from time to time.

Finally, this thing buzzes. Most dimmer switches buzz a little bit, but this thing buzzes more so. In fact, one of them buzzes on and off (even when the lights are just fully off) at an interval of about a minute or so. This is in my bedroom so it gets very annoying.

Now that I've committed to the HAI system, it's a lot easier for me to just stick with them, but I really don't see how they are worth their cost.
