Note: This was the product provided by my roofer during a recent replacement of a 20-year old roof (and the original skylights). I can not comment on the installation process of this, since I have only looked at it with admiration from below.

The roof that we installed a pair of these skylights on has a due south exposure, and both summer and winter often feature intense sunlight entering the room. While the warmth is welcome in the winter, the direct sun sometimes is not, especially when trying to watch television. In the summer, the radiant heat of the southern exposure has obvious drawbacks for cooling.

The solar powered shades on these work smoothly and quietly, operated via a battery-powered remote.
